MORE or LESS: MLB Pick ‘Em Preview

The 2018 first-round pick has all the arm talent to become a perennial ace, but the rookie is struggling to put it all together in 2023 (2-2, 7.35 ERA, 1.74 WHIP). In his last five appearances, Rodriguez has failed to surrender less than five hits, with batters averaging .368 in that span. Facing a Dodger lineup that is 4th in team offense this month and doing especially well against right-handed pitching, I expect Rodriguez to get roughed up in this one.

Logan Webb is slowly rounding back into the star we saw in 2021. After a down year in 2022, Webb is taking a run at this year’s NL CY Young, flexing a sub 1.5 ERA for the month of July. If he pitched against the Reds every start, he’d run away with the award (Career: 3-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.92 WHIP). Coming off of two dominating starts, we expect Logan to have Cincinnati batters missing all night.

The Reds have been one of the most electrifying teams to watch this season. However, every high-flying team has a tendency to crash, and Cincinnati is no exception (July: 6-6, .226 AVG, .709 OPS). Despite some thrilling performances from Elly De La Cruz, the rookie is experiencing his own slump, with only six hits in his last 28 ABs. Facing a confident and surging Logan Webb tonight, I expect Elly’s bat to stay quiet.

Shane McClanahan Strikeout Percentage

McClanahan is set to make his first start tonight after being sidelined with a back injury on June 30th. The 23-year-old had a stellar first half but has regressed in his ability to get batters out at home plate (3.8 Strikeouts/last 5 games). A falling strikeout rate doesn’t bode well against a disciplined Rangers lineup. Expect the Rays’ ace to be a bit rusty in his first game back.
